"taking money from a group of people to pool risk is not welfare." So, by that definition, mandatory health insurance is not welfare.
JGalt - December 3, 2012, 6:56 am
next thing we'll be hearing that automobile insurance is a socialized program too...
JGalt - December 3, 2012, 6:55 am
taking money from a group of people to pool risk is not welfare. Taking money from a group of people and giving it to others is welfare. Can you show us where in this act that non merchant marines were covered, thus making it a welfare program?
crankyhead - December 2, 2012, 3:08 pm
You could let him plod along in his ignorance. Might be good for a few laughs.
PapaFox - December 2, 2012, 11:40 am
Do I really need to explain to you that a navy and a merchant fleet are two completely separate entities? Seriously?
fauxnews - December 1, 2012, 10:22 pm
arnnatz?..rofl...We missed you, mate. Why the new account, wanker? Did your mother finally take away your computer?
PeteofSanJose - December 1, 2012, 7:45 pm
The "snippy" remark was not intended to be "snippy" as you put it, merely a point that the current health care is mandatory for ALL citizens, not just the Seamen. We are being penalized (taxed) whether you like it or not. They were not taxed back then.
PeteofSanJose - December 1, 2012, 7:43 pm
We could both be slightly correct. The first US navy was 17751790. Merchant Seamen were then inplace. The Navy as we know it began in 1797, so the Merchants were between the two.therefore, it was a precursor of our modern day Navy.
PapaFox - December 1, 2012, 7:22 pm
Not sure how the snippy remark about welfare relates to anything, as 92% of the current US workforce is employed.
PapaFox - December 1, 2012, 7:22 pm
You really should read the act before commenting on it. 1) It was for merchant seamen (not the US Navy, which had already existed for 23 years), 2) it was mandatory, and deducted from the seaman's pay.
PeteofSanJose - December 1, 2012, 6:40 pm
Correct. However, this was also the precursor of the US Navy. Not ALL citizens were covered. No one was penalized (taxed) for not having it. The rest of USA was working, not lazily collecting welfare.

...The only way out is changing energy dependence from oil to nuclear solutions, which liberals decry. They think the GOP sux. Libs think they sux. Relax, they're both right. Common ground at last.
fauxnews - July 2, 2014, 8:39 pm
...Liberals think they can solve the problem with windmills and peanut oil car engines. The GOP want to pray they way out of it, treating reiigious methodology as a substitute for reason and logic despite its inherent fallacies...
fauxnews - July 2, 2014, 8:31 pm
Now you're making sense.I agree. It's the politics that sux. That's why the science should be left out of it.The science shows manmade climate change is real. But the problem rests in blaming the science,as if its the data's fault.Slam the politician instead
Curlyrocks - July 2, 2014, 8:05 pm
Global Warming is the liberal equivalent of the war on terror. There will always be weather like terrorists, you keep saying you have all the answers but don't and it never ends.
Curlyrocks - July 2, 2014, 8:03 pm
So what's the plan then? GW alarmists don't seem interested in the actual observed problems with practical solutions, and instead scream and yell about the issue that can never be proven, has conflicting evidence and has no practical solution.
EmmaRoydes - July 1, 2014, 9:35 pm
And you have to remember, curly, that in fauxnew's mind, jon stewart IS a scientist.
fauxnews - July 1, 2014, 7:38 pm
I didn't say it. Jon Stewart did.And think what you will, Curly, but Session is the laughing stock of the scientific community at the moment.Sorry...but you really have no idea what you're speaking about.Scientifically speaking, he's wrong. That's reality
EmmaRoydes - July 1, 2014, 6:53 pm
You forget, curly, that john stewart is the spokesperson for the liberals. I'm surprised they don't end his quotes with "the gospel according to jon"
Curlyrocks - July 1, 2014, 6:28 pm
I love how you say he's wrong but you don't say how. This man looks to have a better understanding of chemistry and the environment than most global warming alarmists who love to scream "your wrong" but have no understanding of the actual science preached

I have consistently predicted Trump's loss and unlike you I havent flipflopped on that.I stand by it and the science. And if he DOES wins with the 16-20% chance PEC gives him, then I will accept that outcome as fair and square...

fauxnews - September 10, 2016, 9:45 pm

fauxnews - September 10, 2016, 9:33 pm
And the polls show Trump is STILL losing. (Source PEC). Even 538's fundamental-weighted poll has gives Trump at best 30%. If a doctor gives a liver cancer patient those odds, that's not the cue to go out for a night of drinking.
Foamy - September 10, 2016, 8:18 pm
Mate, when the polls say that Hillary is in the lead, it is the Gospel truth. When the polls show that Trump has caught up, puppies around the world are being stabbed by Trump supporters and that is the Gospel truth to Democrats
GOTCHA - September 10, 2016, 8:09 pm
Said the person who demanded that everyone belive the polls when Hillary was winning...You should have NOTHING to worry about now that according to your evidence... oh... wait. Don't believe the polls. Ignore the evidence. Nothing is true. Right?
fauxnews - September 10, 2016, 12:59 pm
Well, then. If ALL of that IS 'true'(LOL)then you should have NOTHING to worry about..or continually 'protest.'I mean, according to your logic and evidence(lol),the election is only 'rigged'IF you(think)Trump is losing.Guess we should just accept defeat {:^(
TuckerAndDale - September 10, 2016, 6:45 am
